There has been a lot of information in the media recently about Cyprus opening up to tourism and being a safe destination for a holiday in 2021.
We have been keeping a close eye on developments and things are certainly looking a lot more positive for the coming summer. Vaccinations in certain countries are going very well including the UK and Isreal while Europe is now starting to get better numbers. Cyprus hopes to have half a million people vaccinated by June which is a massive proportion of the total population.
In the coming weeks Cyprus will be categorizing more countries with updates on it's traffic light system and from April and May a lot of countries will be allowed access within the following criteria. This will all depend on each countries Covid status and data at the time, and it will be continually updated as each countries data progressses.
For countries in the Green category, mainly for those people with vaccines, will be allowed normal entry with random tests on arrival.
For countries in the Orange or Amber category a PCR test within 72 hours of arrival is required, with random testing on arrival.
For countries in the Red category a PCR test within 72 hours of arrival followed by a test on arrival in Cyprus will be required. The test on arrival will be free.
For all of these categories no quarantine will be required on arrival.
Cyprus was seen as one of the safest destinations in the world in 2020 and the same applies for 2021. Although any death is of course very sad indeed Cyprus has only had just over 200 deaths during the whole pandemic. The Government has done an excellent job in controlling numbers and serious cases will continue to drop as more vunerable people are vaccinated.
Therefore we see countries viewing Cyprus as a safe place to allow their citizens to fly here.
Diving continues to be open in Cyprus will shore and boat dives still allowed, all of course with full protocols for safety in place. The Dive Centres also are open with access allowed and again with the full required protocols in place.
So the scene is set to allow visitors into Cyprus with either vaccinations or testing procedures as the key, and with each individual countries data being taken into account on a rolling basis. As more vaccinations are administered this can only improve each countries status with time.
Let's hope that many people can enjoy a summer of sun and fun in Cyprus this year and with plenty of divers visiting us too !
